Writing this was not as easy as writing the last narrative; much more consideration went into this because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to focus on. I decided to write about the role of technology in the professional world because it is something that I am coming to terms with as I continue my job search. I particularly wanted to explore why it is that I feel compelled to partake in this participatory culture by using services such as LinkedIn. As it turns out, the idea of FOMO (fear of missing out) extends beyond the social stratum. This fear of being left behind also exists in our professional lives. And at this point, using technology no longer becomes optional and voluntary. Our level of engagement with it is also very much dependent on other people, not just ourselves.

Mozilla has put together a “framework for entry-level web literacy & 21st Century skills” with an accompanying visualization that you can use to navigate their framework. The core literacies (Write, Read, Participate) play out across a set of fourteen 21st-century skills. Those skills are further classified as focused on problem-solving, communication, creativity, and collaboration.
